With cello notes, they are really easy to read. The open strings are on center lines. The D string is the center line, the G string is the bottom line, the A string is the top line, and the C string is below the bottom line. The third finger is on the third line above the open string. There are several different positions, but for now, we will be working on the 1st position. You can see here:

The names of the fingerings start on the open string name, for example, the a string. 1st finger is B, 2nd finger is C, 3rd finger is C#, and 4th finger is D. The names of the notes go in order A, B, C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C, D,E, F, G, and so on. So, for the D string, the names are 1st finger is E, 2nd is F, 3rd is F#, 4th finger is G, and then there is the open A string.
